Clare Edwards Award

The Clare Edwards Award is for professional excellence and contribution to the legal profession serving the construction industry. Sponsored jointly by TeCSA and the Construction Confederation, it will be awarded when an exceptional candidate is identified.

CLARE EDWARDS:

Clare Edwards was a member of TeCSA from 1993 until her untimely death at the age of 40 in March 2004.  Following articles at Rowe & Maw, she joined Bristows as a newly qualified solicitor in 1988 from where she moved to her final position as Legal Director of the Construction Confederation in 1997.  She was a member of the JCT Council and drafting Sub-Committee where her intelligent and pragmatic approach and unfailing sense of humour were widely respected.  At JCT she was involved on behalf of contractors in updating JCT standard forms as well as producing new contracts.  She was an invaluable member of TeCSA’s Sub-Committee charged with producing the first draft of the Pre-Action Protocol in relation to which she was able to seek out and represent the industry’s views.  The Clare Edwards Award was set up in her memory and awarded to her posthumously in 2004.

Previous Winners of the Award have been:

2004: Clare Edwards

2006: Dick Shadbolt
